Yes! You do need your own website. You can control your own brand and messages, and also benefit from direct sales and bookings. It is also a way to collect email addresses of your fans - a list that you own (unlike social media where they own the relationship).
This can vary depending on how tech savvy you are, how much time you have and your budget.
You will need a domain (free from Squarespace in their Core Plan or from someone like Namecheap.

Your website will be hosted on Squarespace which starts at $15/month. You sign up an pay for a plan last when your website is complete on your handover day.
As a client, I can give you 10-20% off an annual plan.
Squarespace is the perfect platform for authors and creatives. It is easy to use, has swizzy features and is more secure than sites like Wordpress.

You essentially need: Home page, About page, Books or Services page with easy links to click and buy, and a Contact page. I also recommend adding an email list.
